Minneapolis Newborn Photography

Bringing another baby into your family is an incredible time – no matter how it happens. But it’s also a complete whirlwind, that will turn your life upside down, and it will go by so, so fast.

Your newborn’s first few weeks with your family fly past in a blink, and newborn photography lets you stop those moments in time. It might sound cliché, but all clichés come with a hint of truth, and that’s the case for this one too. You deserve to be able to look back at all of the amazing, fleeting details of your little one, while they’re still little.

Malone Portraits' Commitment to Inclusion:

It is my promise as a professional, and as an artist, that you will be respected, cared for, and held in safety while you're working with Malone Portraits, or spending time in my studio. Everyone is welcome here, period.

Working with Malone Portraits

There are many different approaches to newborn photography, but mine focuses on the love. In images of your baby with family, I aim to capture real, raw emotion. The tender grasp of a grandfather, the look in your baby’s eyes when they glance up at you – these are the true magic of those first few weeks. It lives in the details.

And after your newborn session with Malone Portraits, you’ll be able to look back at those details for years to come.

Malone Portraits Newborn Photography Services

Newborn photo shoots can happen in the studio, or in your home, but there are also add-ons we can include in your package, to document even more of your baby’s journey into your family!

Studio Newborn Photography

Newborn sessions that take place in my Minneapolis photography studio

Studio newborn sessions are designed to be low stress, and tailored to your needs, and your baby’s needs. Little ones need to take breaks – and that’s okay. Your session will accommodate time for feeding your baby (which we can tenderly document as well, if you’re interested in motherhood imagery), and will overall go at a pace that keeps your baby from being stressed, or overstimulated.

Making incredible memories is key – but so is safety, and comfort.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography

Newborn photo sessions that take place in your home

The studio isn’t the only place we can capture your newborn session – I can also come to you. Your home is your baby’s safe place for their first weeks, and whether you’d prefer an in-home session for their comfort, your comfort, or for aesthetic reasons, the option is available to you.

The images we capture in lifestyle newborn sessions have a particularly personal, raw quality, combining subtle posing with candid, natural interaction between you and your baby.

Maternity Session Add-On

Maternity images to document your pregnancy

Malone Portraits only offers maternity photography sessions as an add-on to a newborn photography package, because they are a stepping stone in your little one’s journey.

The maternity add on can take place in your home, or in the studio, and before your session we’ll discuss the vision you have for your images. We can capture timeless, classic, or high-fashion style photos in the studio, or take a more natural, casual approach in your home. It’s entirely up to your specific needs!

Fresh 48 Session Add-On

Fresh-48 images to document your baby’s first days

Your baby won’t just change in their first weeks, they’ll change in their first days, too. Fresh 48 photography sessions allow you to have professional images of your baby in their first 48 hours, before the window where a newborn session would normally take place.

Sometimes these sessions take place in the hospital where your baby is born, and sometimes they take place in your home. Malone Portraits offers Fresh 48 sessions as an add-on to a newborn package, similarly to the way Maternity sessions are offered.

What about Scheduling?

Scheduling a newborn session before your little one joins your family might sound complex, because you don’t always know exactly when your baby will be born – pregnancy is unpredictable, after all. But for newborn photography sessions, we have work-arounds in place for scheduling. Instead of booking a specific date, we reserve your due date at the time of booking as a placeholder. Then, when your little one joins us out here in the world, you reach back out to me and we set the actual date and time in stone for your session to take place. That way you can rest assured you have a session on the calendar ahead of time, and don’t have to juggle that task in your baby’s first weeks, but we don’t have to reschedule things based on when your baby is born.

After Your Newborn Photography Session

After your newborn session takes place, we’ll take a look at the images together, and you get to choose the ones you’d like hand edited into individual pieces of art. From there, it’s time to think about printing!

I work with archival quality printers, who can create everything from large-scale canvas prints for your home, to hand-crafted albums with luxurious, custom covers, and printed images that will stand the test of time. We can have an ordering appointment where we walk through all of the options simply, and clearly, to make sure you’re getting exactly what you need and want from your session – with absolutely no guesswork.

Questions About Minneapolis Newborn Photoshoots?

Pregnancy as well as your baby’s first few weeks can be a stressful time, which is why it’s important to me to answer as many of your questions in advance as I can. I’ve collected some of the most common questions below, but if you have a question you don’t see here, just reach out, and we can talk about it.

How do we choose what to wear?

What you wear to any photo session has a huge impact on the look of your final images – so it’s important to put some thought into it! For newborn photo sessions, the best approach is to choose coordinating (but not perfectly MATCHING) clothing for each person who’s going to be photographed. But if you have any doubt, just reach out and we can talk about it! Creating the wardrobe for your session is important, and you don’t have to be alone in making those choices.

When it comes to your newborn themselves, if you have favorite items of their clothing you want them to wear, bring them with you to the session. It is, however, important that the morning before the session, they’re dressed in loose fitted clothing, so that there are no fabric marks on their delicate skin when we start the session.

What size images will I receive?

Great question. Your images will be available in both print and web resolutions for download after your session. However, I also offer printing services, so that you don’t have to take on any guesswork when it comes to ordering images to hang in your home!

How much do sessions cost?

All sessions with Malone Portraits are uniquely tailored to your specific needs, and everyone needs something a little different. The best way to get a quote for your session, is to reach out, and we can have a conversation about it! For newborn sessions, I offer everything from a simple collection of just a handful of images, to a package that includes maternity, fresh 48, and newborn photography, as well as printed albums for each. The price of your package will depend on what details we tailor to your specific needs!
