Why Do We Have to Have A Pre-Session Meeting?
One of the key elements of our senior packages is the pre-session meeting, which we conduct via Zoom or in person. You might be wondering why this is necessary. This meeting is where we dive into all the exciting details and possibilities for your session. From offering styling advice to exploring the best location options, this is where we ensure everything is tailored to your vision. I love getting to know the seniors I work with, and this consultation is crucial for me to capture your spirit authentically. Plus, it’s important that you feel comfortable and safe with me behind the camera, so you can relax and be yourself during the session. We’ll chat, brainstorm, and collaborate, so if you come prepared with ideas and goals for your session, the outcome will be even better! While I’m always available for backup communication via email or text, nothing compares to the creative synergy we can achieve in a live meeting.
What Do I Wear?
Deciding what to wear is often the most daunting part of preparing for your senior session, but don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! I provide a comprehensive Styling and Prep Guide as part of every package, filled with tips and suggestions to help you look your best. However, my #1 piece of advice is always to stay true to your personal style. You’re welcome to bring a variety of pieces to create different looks, but having at least one outfit that you feel comfortable and confident in is key to capturing photos that truly reflect who you are. And hey, if you want to bring your Halloween costume or Ren Fest attire, I’m all for it—let’s make your session as unique as you are!
How Do I Know Which Location to Choose?
Choosing the perfect location for your senior photos can feel overwhelming, especially with so many beautiful spots available in our vibrant city. Most of my senior sessions take place at my studio in NE Minneapolis, an ideal option if you prefer not to worry about the weather and want guaranteed perfect lighting. The studio is a controlled environment with endless customization possibilities—from colorful backdrops to a convenient built-in changing room. There’s a reason the studio is my default choice!
If you’re leaning towards an outdoor vibe, you can’t go wrong with my Medicine Lake property or Nicollet Island. Nicollet Island is conveniently located near the studio, making it a fantastic second location if you want both indoor and outdoor shots. The mix of urban and natural elements at Nicollet Island offers a diverse range of backgrounds. Medicine Lake, with its private lake access, offers a serene and picturesque setting that’s especially beautiful in the fall. Both locations are stunning, so it’s hard to make a wrong choice! And if you have a specific vision in mind, I’m open to accommodating custom locations to make your session truly unique.

Props can add a personal touch to your photos, and I’m a big fan of incorporating them when it makes sense. While some posed shots with props can feel a bit cheesy, I have a knack for capturing action shots that authentically showcase your hobbies and interests. Who Can I Bring to My Session?
You’re welcome to bring whomever you’d like to your session, as long as you let me know in advance and we keep the group small. Typically, senior sessions include just the senior and a parent, which often leads to one of my favorite moments—the senior-parent portrait. These shots are always heartfelt and add an extra layer of meaning to the session. If you’d like, you can also bring a partner, friend, or pet—whatever makes you feel more at ease in front of the camera. However, I recommend keeping the entourage to one or two people to minimize distractions. This year, I’m thrilled to introduce a new option: a friends shoot included in some of my packages (also available as an add-on!). After all, your friends are the ones who helped make high school memorable, so why not capture that bond in your senior portraits?
What Happens After the Session?
Once your session wraps up, the real magic begins! I’ll start by culling and editing your photos, carefully selecting the best shots to present to you. You’ll receive an online gallery where you can review and choose your favorites. After you’ve made your selections, I’ll take any retouching requests into account and ensure your final images are picture-perfect. For those who’ve opted for more extensive packages, we’ll schedule an ordering appointment to discuss how you’d like to display your photos at home—whether it’s with prints, albums, or wall art.
